Mother Mary Comes to Me by Arundhati Roy

Do writers put their parents on a pedestal after their death?

This book is more about the author first, and then about her mother. A relationship that sounds very one way and more rebellious just because you can't take what your parents have to say or how they treat you. This is not an account of a monstrous mother but a strict mother who had a lot on her plate.

It is sad that she end up writing the whole book but in the real events she seems a lot disconnected with her mother. The events are more like narrated as facts and less as the emotional consequences of those events.

Its definitely courageous to write everything inside out which is what makes this readable. Not for a peek in the writer's life but how everything led to what the writer eventually sees herself.
